COVID-19, also known as “coronavirus disease 19,” is an infectious viral respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus. “CO” in its name refers to the word corona, “VI” refers to the word virus, “D” refers to the word disease, while the number “19” refers to 2019, the year the virus appeared.
